President Biden “Uber Driver “

This is not to mock American President Biden, who has distinguished himself out of all other U.S. presidents by spending half a century in public service. It is certainly not to make light of Uber drivers, who are really a technical turning point that has transferred the world through economic and social revolution beyond the scope of this article. In fact, I’m just trying to illustrate to the Americans and the world why I’m calling on the American President to give up his nomination for a second term, and work instead as an Uber driver, from my humble experience. 

I am an American activist born and raised in Iraq. I have a great interest –you can say to the opposition degree– in law, judiciary, and good governance. Before and after the change of the regime in Iran in 2003, I volunteered and worked as a contractor with Iraqi, American, European, and international agencies to structure a fair transition from totalitarianism to functional democracy. 

Alas, we failed to change the status quo through speaking out and providing good advice. However, I kept voicing, through articles, interviews, and social media postings, my goal of establishing a state that’s ruled by the role of law, not by militias and plagued with corruption. Eventually, I was targeted by the very judiciary system that I worked to reform. This kept me in exile, away from my home country. I had no choice but to stay in the U.S. capital, working as an Uber driver. My expectation is that I would be doing that for days, weeks, or even months, until those who put me in their crosshairs are gone, or some other change in circumstances that would allow for me and others in exile to go back home and do their duties to their country. Nonetheless, I kept working for Uber for the next decade.

Despite language difficulties, the need to understand DC complex maps, unruly passengers, and other challenges, I managed to complete about 50 thousand trips in those 10 years. Transporting people of different backgrounds, nationalities, and affiliations was an opportunity not only to make a living, but for personal joy and acquiring practical experience that’s hard to quantify. Being on the street on a daily basis enabled me to make observations, reinforced by interacting with people of all walks of life, from a young McDonalds worker to leaders and decision makers in DC. Listening to news outlets such as C-Span, CNN, Al-Jazeera and others while on the job in DC,actually ,I am feeling I  became as part of harmony of the governmental businesses  in the capital of the world,also gave me perspective and opened my eyes to the drivers of various failures, lies, and hypocrisy that directly affect people’s lives. I carefully listen to and compare the actions of law enforcement groups, run internal discussions with myself, and make conclusions. It is not an exaggeration to say that the facts that I revealed and the experience that I acquired cannot be obtained by simply signing up to language schools, and other majors in American and non-American institutions.  These experiences enabled me to write two books and hundreds of articles that range from critique to reform to proposals.

Recently, I seized any chance to talk with my passengers about American administrations. I was expressing to them my disappointment with President Biden’s nomination for reelection. I was hoping that he retires to give himself the opportunity to write his personal and professional experience in a memoir. They especially laughed when I proposed that he works as an Uber driver, only to listen to my reply that it would be his precious chance to be with ‘Uber of people.’ I mean, that would give him the chance to relax with this humble public service, and have discussions with ordinary folks whom he praised in his latest address. Indeed, that address made him the greatest American president, who dared to be open about the things he’s done right, and those he was wrong about. Should he be an Uber driver one day, he might be the first head of state to provide lessons of leadership to all those who seek public office, and open up a system where everyone seeks office should have at least 45 days of work as a driver, a traffic guide, a janitor, a landscaper, or any other work in public places. Those provide opportunities for learning right and wrong on the ground, before they move to assume office. This system is akin to clergy ascension, but clearing government agencies from corruption and laziness would transcend them to temples of sorts. The question is, would he do it?

الرئيس بايدن سائق “أوبر”

هذه ليست سخرية من الرئيس الأمريكي بايدن الذي ميز نفسه من كل الرؤساء الأمريكان بقضائه نصف قرن بالخدمة العامه، وبالتأكيد  انها ليست سخرية من سواق شركة اوبر الذين شكلوا نقطة تحول تكنولوجي نقلت العالم لثورة اقتصادية واجتماعية لا يتسع المجال لذكرها، ولكن لأبين للأمريكان والعالم لماذا دعوت الرئيس الأمريكي للتخلي عن اعادة ترشيح نفسه للرئاسة والعمل كسائق “اوبر”

بتجربتي المتواضعه ،أنا ناشط أمريكي من اصل عراقي مهووس في مجال القانون والقضاء والحوكمة الرشيدة ، قبل وبعد التغيير في العراق عام ٢٠٠٣  قد حاولت متبرعا ومتعاقدا مع وكالات عراقية وأمريكية واوربية وامميه بالعمل على تنظيم انتقالة عادلة ومحكمةً من الحكم الدكتاتوري الشمولي إلى الحكم الديمقراطي الرشيد ، ولما فشلنا وحاولنا اصلاح الحال بالكلمة والنصيحه لتحقيق حلمنا بدولة تحكم بالقانون لا بالمليشات والفساد فاستهدفت شخصيا وقضائيا، ولهذا اضطريت للنفي الجبري عن بلدي الام ، والبقاء في العاصمة الامريكية واشنطن للعمل كسائق “اوبر”  كنت متوقع ان اشغل نفسي لايام او حتى اشهر ولحين يسقط من استهدفني او تتغير الظروف لتسمح لي ولغيري من المنفيين  بالعودة وممارسة اختصاصاتنا،ولكن استمريت اعمل اوبر لعشرة سنوات ،

 ورغم صعوبات اللغة ومعرفة خرائط  الطرق المعقدة في العاصمة واشنطن وبعض التحديات الأخرى المرتبطة بالسواق والركاب المزعجين ، ولكن إكمالي  حوالي ٥٠ الف رحلة في عشرة سنوات عمل مع اوبر لنقل ركاب من كل الفئات والأجناس الأمريكية وغير الأمريكية لم تكن فرصة للرزق الحلال فحسب بل كانت ومازالت متعة شخصية وكسب خبرات عملية يصعب حصرها، فتواجدي اليومي  في شوارع الناس مكننني من رصد  ومشاهدات على مر الايام والساعات، عززتها التواصل مع كل النوعيات من الركاب ، من عاملة بعمر الورد  تعمل في ماكدونالد إلى قادة ومؤثرين في الحكومة الأمريكية،  كما اضافت انتقالي بالأخبار من السي سبان إلى السي ان ان والجزيرة وبقية القنوات وانا في قلب العاصمة واشنطن وفرت لي فرصة التعرف على محركات النفاق و الأكاذيب والإخفاق والمخلفات ومعالجتها وإخفاقاتها الحكومية في حياة الناس ومبادين شوارعهم الشعبية ، استمع واقارن افعال جماعات إنفاذ القوانين واناقش واحكم ، لن أبالغ إذا قلت ما كشفته من حقائق وحصلت عليه من خبرات مفصلية لا يمكن تحصيلها للمتدرب بكل مدارس تعلم اللغة والاختصاصات المدنية سواء بالمدارس الأمريكية وغير الأمريكية ،،  ألهمتني لكتابة كتابين ومئات المقالات النقدية والإصلاحية وملفات المقترحات والشكاوى المنشورة وغير المنشورة،

ولهذا في الاونة الاخيرة، في كل مناسبة يتسنى لي الحديث مع ركابي عن القيادات الأمريكية ،كنت انقل لركابي إحباطي من اعادة الرئيس الأمريكي بايدن ترشيح نفسه للرئاسة ،وانقل لهم تمنياتي ان يتقاعد ليمنح نفسه الوقت والفرصة  ليكتب تجربته الوظيفية والشخصية ، ومنها ان يعمل ولو سائق اوبر فيضحكون ، فكنت ارد على ضحكاتهم ، بانها فرصته الثمينه مع “اوبر الناس،” يسترخي بهذه الوظيفة الخدمية المتواضعه، فيرصد ويناقش كل القضايا مع الناس العاديين،الذين اشار لهم بالأولوية في خطاب تبرير الانسحاب ،ليكون بالفعل أعظم رئيس أمريكي اعلن من ميدان الواقع اين اخطا واين اصاب، وقد يكون اول رئيس حكومة في العالم  يقدم دروس لقادة وعناصر خدمة الوظيفة العامه في امريكا وخارجها ، تدفعهم لفرض نظام وظيفي غاية في الاهمية ، يشترط على كل من يريد ان يعمل بالوظيفة العامه ان يكون قد مارس -ولو لمدة ٤٥ يوم -وظيفة سائق في نقل عام او مرشد ميداني في شوارع الناس العامه ،او منظف او بستاني  او اي وظيفة عامه في الاماكن العامه ، يتلمس من الواقع الصح والخطأ  قبل ان يتولى الوظيفة التشريعية او الحكومية او القضائية ، ينقل بالفعل قبل القول الموظفين العموميين من سعات للنفوذ او الرزق بالحلال اوالحرام إلى مايشبه الكهنة للحفاظ على حرمة الوظيفة العامة،ويجعل من الوكالات العامة من مؤسسات للكسل او الفساد والافساد العام إلى معبد او معابد لخدمة الناس، فهل سيفعلها ؟
